The appraisal process consists of two essential and related parts: authentication and evaluation. Before a value may be assigned to a rug or textile, its identifying characteristics, such as geographic origin and age must be determined.

Proper identification provides the foundation for an accurate valuation, the next step in the appraisal process.

An understanding of the myriad circumstances imposed by courts, insurance contracts, and the U.S. Treasury Department enables Mr. Kosub to provide appraisals that address specific requirements.

Long time participation in the markets and production of oriental rugs allows Mr. Kosub to provide comprehensive valuation based on market comparisons or replacement with new construction.



StandardsAllen R. Kosub is an accredited senior appraiser (ASA) of the American Society of Appraisers with the designated specialty of Oriental Rugs.

The American Society of Appraisers is one of the founding organizations of the Appraisal Foundation, which is recognized by the US Congress as the source for the development and promulgation of appraisal standards and qualifications. The Appraisal Foundation codifies these standards in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).

The appraisals prepared by this practice conform to these recognized standards. Additionally, Mr. Kosub’s membership and continuing accreditation with the American Society of Appraisers is contingent upon regular completion of USPAP courses as well as the completion of regular, continuing education.
